Before you book
A little checking. A smoother start.
Open each check for the question to ask. Tick items as you review them; ticks are not saved by TrendMintAI.
01Compare the whole rental, not just the daily rate
Write down what you pay now and what is still due at collection. Check taxes, location charges, one-way fees and any age-related charge. Only add an extra once: it may already be included in the quote.
Ask: What is the total payable for my exact dates, driver and chosen extras?
Use the same dates, times and extras for both quotes.
02Check your card and the deposit
Confirm the accepted card type, whose name must be on it, the deposit amount and the available balance or credit required. Keep a refundable security hold separate from the rental price; ask when and how it is released.
Ask: Will my card be accepted at pickup, and what amount will be held or charged?
The card used online may not meet the pickup requirements.
03Understand the cover and excess
Read what is included, the excess you could pay and the exclusions. Ask whether extra protection changes your liability at the desk or reimburses a charge afterwards. Do not assume it removes the deposit.
Ask: What can I still be charged for, and how would a claim work?
Compare the protection, not just its product name.
04Make pickup work for your journey
Confirm whether the desk is in the terminal or needs a transfer. Check opening hours, out-of-hours fees and what happens if your flight is delayed. Keep the rental supplier’s contact details with your booking.
Ask: Where do I collect the car, and what should I do if I arrive late?
Check the actual collection point and arrival time.
05Read the fuel, mileage and route rules
Check the fuel return policy, mileage allowance and any charge for extra distance. Ask about permission for border crossings, ferries or restricted roads relevant to your route.
Ask: Are my planned route and distance allowed, and how must I return the fuel?
Make sure the agreement fits the trip you plan to take.
06Check changes, cancellation and no-shows
Find the cancellation deadline, time zone and refund conditions. Check late collection, early return and no-show terms. Save the terms shown at booking rather than relying on a headline such as “flexible”.
Ask: What would I lose if my plans changed before pickup?
A flexible plan needs a flexible booking.
07Keep a simple handover record
Read the agreement before signing. Record existing damage with the supplier and keep your own photos, including fuel and mileage. At return, request a receipt or condition confirmation and retain fuel receipts.
Ask: Can we record the car’s condition together at collection and return?
A few notes and photos can make the return easier.
